It’s possible that many folks have seen parts of Sumner County, Tennessee, without even realizing it! How? Sumner County, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville, has appeared as the backdrop for several music videos throughout the years. Here’s a look at Sumner County as featured in different music videos!
"Hurt" - Johnny Cash
Johnny Cash lived in Hendersonville, Sumner County, Tennessee, from 1968 until his death in 2003. He loved his waterfront home on Old Hickory Lake and filmed much of his video “Hurt” there.
Unfortunately, the former Cash house was lost to a fire in 2007 during renovations. Markers highlight some of history of Cash’s former property located at 200 Caudill Drive, Hendersonville.
"White Liar" - Miranda Lambert
The backdrop of Miranda Lambert’s hit song “White Liar” was none other than Rock Castle State Historic Site in Hendersonville!
Rock Castle State Historic Site was completed around 1796 as the home of General Daniel Smith, an early pioneer of the area who named the state of Tennessee. Guests can tour the house for a fee or walk the grounds of Historic Rock Castle and enjoy breathtaking views of Old Hickory Lake. Weddings can also be booked at the site in front of the house like Miranda’s wedding, but the site’s lakefront options, lush canopied lawn, and gorgeous pavilion are also great places to celebrate!
"You Belong With Me" - Taylor Swift
Former Hendersonville resident Taylor Swift utilized Pope John Paul II High School, where her brother Austin was also a student, to film the scenes for her smash hit, “You Belong With Me.”
In the end of 2009, Swift made a donation to Pope John Paul II, along with her former schools Ellis Middle School and Hendersonville High School, both in Sumner County. After devastating flooding hit Tennessee in 2010, Swift also generously donated $100,000 to restore Memorial Park in Hendersonville, which locals often now refer to as “Taylor Swift Park.”
"Changed" - Jordan Feliz
Downtown Gallatin’s Historic Square sets the stage for Jordan Feliz’s catchy and upbeat song, “Changed.”
Gallatin was established as a city in 1802 and its downtown area still demonstrates architectural history from throughout the years. Vibrant shops and delicious restaurants line the Gallatin Square, and its colorful flower baskets are raved about by visitors. Notice the pole signs in the video? They were in honor of Gallatin being named “The Nicest Place in America” by Readers Digest in 2017!
"Point at You" - Justin Moore
Portland, Sumner County, Tennessee, was where TailLight TV decided to film Justin Moore’s video, “Point at You.”
Producers called the town “warm and welcoming” and visitors often comment the same of the city today. The shot of Justin being chased by police was filmed on Portland’s Main Street, where live music concerts, events, and the famous Middle Tennessee Strawberry Festival are also held!
"Slow Dancing in a Parking Lot" - Jordan Davis
This sweet song by Jordan Davis features places located throughout Gallatin, Tennessee, to piece together a sentimental and touching video.
Local retail storefronts and their parking lots were used to film along with Sumner Regional Medical Center. Not only was Gallatin High School’s football field featured, but the football team was also used in the video!
"Middle of America" - Will Hoge
In just one take, Will Hoge takes viewers through downtown Gallatin for his video, “Middle of America.”
There are some great shots demonstrating the adorableness of the historic Downtown Gallatin Square. The video was filmed in 2014 and while some of the businesses have changed, the quaint, sweet Gallatin Square remains as attractive as ever!
"Fire Away" - Chris Stapleton
Portland, Tennessee, was featured in this heart-wrenching video for the song “Fire Away” that was performed by Chris Stapleton.
A Sumner County EMS ambulance can be seen in the video; also, the police officer was filmed standing on Main Street in downtown Portland. TriStar Portland ER was used in the final scenes of the video.
"The Daughters" - Little Big Town
A former school gymnasium in Portland, Sumner County, Tennessee, was used to film most of Little Big Town’s “The Daughters.
Built in 1948, the Richland Park gym was used over two days for various shots, including the haunting scenes of the dancers with light streaming in the windows. The cheerleaders are also wearing local Portland High School uniforms for the shoot.
"Till There's Nothing Left" - Cam
Although the video features some cool shots of downtown Nashville, the dive bar The Hitching Post is located in Portland, Tennessee!
The Hitching Post bar, located right off I-65, is a little town stop that often offers weekly pool tournaments, live music, karaoke, cold drinks, and a lot of fun!
"90s Country" - Walker Hayes
Old Hickory Lake in Sumner County is a gorgeous setting for Walker Hayes’ “90s Country” music video.
Not only did Hayes wakeboard in his blue jeans, he worked with TNT Water Sports in Hendersonville to provide the wakeboard boats for the shoot! TNT can also help folks who might in the market to purchase a wakeboard boat to use on Old Hickory Lake!
"Sumner County Tonight" - Bitty James
Downtown Portland is showcased again as the backdrop for Bitty James’ “Sumner County Tonight” thanks to its great hometown feel, historic buildings, and draped cafe lights.
Bitty James lives locally in Sumner County and pays homage to the laid-back, memorable nights with friends that many enjoy in Sumner County!
"Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90's" - Sam Hunt
The scenes in the church for Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90’s by Sam Hunt were filmed right in downtown Gallatin at the Gallatin First United Methodist Church!
If you keep an eye on the left side of the screen as the actor walks out of the church, you can see that the sign says, “Gallatin, TN.”
