Cragfont State Historic Site

About Cragfont State Historic Site

Cragfont State Historic Site is a unique early frontier house that was formerly the home of General James Winchester, who was a veteran of both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. General Winchester was a prominent figure in Tennessee who was close to President Andrew Jackson and the two men even founded the city of Memphis together. Cragfont was the personal home of the Winchester family and house tours offer an intimate look at life on the Tennessee frontier. The house features a 3rd-story ballroom, vast gardens, and other highlights on a house tour that are quite memorable.
