The Douglass-Clark House hosts a new pop-up exhibition from the National ArchivesRightfully Hers, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Rightfully Hers contains simple messages exploring the history of the ratification of the 19th amendment, women’s voting rights before and after the 19th, and its impact today. Despite decades of marches, petitions, and public debate to enshrine a woman’s right to vote in the constitution, the 19th Amendment – while an enormous milestone – did not grant voting rights for all. The challenges of its passage reverberate to the ongoing fight for gender equity today.  This exhibit runs through Saturday, December 19, 2020.

Due to Covid-19, the Douglass-Clark House is currently limiting guests in the house to 2 persons at a time.

Rightfully Hers is organized by the National Archives and Records Administration. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, the National Archives has launched a nationwide initiative and major exhibition that explores the generations-long fight for universal woman suffrage. The exhibition is presented in part by the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission and the National Archives Foundation through the generous support of Unilever, Pivotal Ventures, Carl M. Freeman Foundation in honor of Virginia Allen Freeman, AARP, and Denise Gwyn Ferguson.

This is Gill's Bright Lights' 12th year of putting up their display!

This year's display will consist of 55k dancing lights, moving to the music in your car radio (97.3 FM). They have 17ft Spiraling Mega Trees, 15ft Snowmen, 17ft Shooting Stars and many more holiday decorations. All of their decorations are homemade by them and they use nothing but LED lights. They begin putting up their display in early October and don't complete it, until the end of November. They launch the show on December 1st.

Sunday through Thursday the display is open from 5:30pm until 10:30pm and Friday through Saturday from 5:30pm until 11pm. Each year they've taken cash donations for a specific charity, on-site.

The display is free to the public.

In 2011 they won the overall Ann Chapman Nashville Holiday Lights contest.

John Berry, a GRAMMY® winning singer/songwriter, who was diagnosed with throat cancer after wrapping his 2018 Christmas tour, shares his inspiration for the 24th Annual Christmas Songs and Stories Tour. 2020 has brought many new challenges to the touring industry, but determined to bring the joy of live music and the much needed Christmas spirit to as many fans as possible, John Berry will be on stage performing to keep the tradition alive in as many venues as they can.

John’s 2019 Christmas season was a reason for celebration as he reflected on his ongoing recovery and the joy of the Christmas spirit after he concluded 35 cancer treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation, but 2020 finds him with a whole new list of hurdles brought on by the current Covid-19 virus. Normally John and his band hit the road right after Thanksgiving and do not stop until close to Christmas making stops in approximately 25 cities. This year there are only six cities which will kick off with his hometown of Gallatin, TN on December 12th for two shows at The Palace Theatre, then hitting the road for stops in Jeffersonville, Indiana, down to Georgia for shows in Athens, Bremen and Macon and ending in Dothan, Alabama. Each city has restrictions on occupancy which has created obstacles of pre-sold tickets over-filling seats that went on sale after last year's tour and found John's team forced to find solutions to overcome the challenge of how to keep fans happy and meet the regulations set by each city. In more than one instance they had to move the show to a larger facility which allowed more space to seat ticket holders in a socially distanced atmosphere.  Each venue will taking precautions to help ticket holders feel safe which includes spaced seating and requesting masks be worn. A few venues will have staggered entry and exit to keep a safe flow. All steps will be put into place to try and keep these shows a safe enjoyable event

2021 will celebrate the Silver Anniversary of the Christmas Songs and Stories Tour commemorating with plans for a bigger and better enhanced performance.

John Berry is known for his seasonal fan favorite holiday performances which are filled with traditional Christmas songs, including his incredible version of "O Holy Night,” many of his most requested hit songs, and a few of his childhood stories sprinkled in.

[more+]
