The holiday season brings lots of good tidings and cheer, as well as lots of fun and joyful activities the family can enjoy! As Sumner County, Tennessee, celebrates the holidays, we invite you to join us!

Below is a list of upcoming Christmas-related events happening in Sumner County in 2020. Due to Covid-19, it is strongly encouraged to contact attractions directly to confirm event details, including any Covid-19 precautions, and for event updates. Events are subject to change.

Thursday, November 16 - Monday, December 14

Portland

The Holiday Shop Local Passport in Portland gives folks a chance to support local businesses and potentially win prizes! Passports can be picked up at the Portland Chamber of Commerce (106 Main St.) and shoppers collect stamps in their passports from participating businesses. Once completed, the passports are turned in to the Portland Chamber of Commerce to be entered for a chance to win prizes including a $250 grand prize!

The drawing will take place on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Contact the Portland Chamber at (615) 325-9032 for more details.

Saturday, November 21 - January 17, 2021

Hendersonville

Monthaven Arts & Cultural Center presents “A Cosmic Christmas” featuring vibrant works of art created by Peter Max. Max is a German-American artist who is well-known for his use of bright colors as well as his incorporation of psychedelic and pop art influenced by the 1960s.

The exhibit is open to the public Tuesdays – Saturdays from 10am – 5pm, and on Sundays from 1pm – 5pm. Admission is free but donations are accepted.

Friday, November 27 - Saturday, November 28

Gallatin

Boutique Bazaar’s Annual Christmas Market brings together over 100 unique vendors for a shopping extravaganza! The marketplace is held in the beautiful 37,000 sq ft barn at Bagsby Ranch as well as in the lovely 40 acres of outdoor space surrounding the barn. Home decor, clothing, foods, children’s items, pet treats, and so much more can be found at this wonderful marketplace. Admission is $5 per person, cash only.

Due to Covid-19, guests need to bring masks and contactless temperature checks will be taken at the gate.

On Friday the marketplace is open from 4pm – 8pm, and on Saturday the marketplace is open from 9am – 3pm.

Friday, November 27 - Sunday, December 13

Hendersonville

Hendersonville Performing Arts Company presents a live production of the classic tale A Christmas Story based on the famous motion picture. The story from Jean Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas! This timeless classic is sure to be enjoyed by the entire family!

Tickets prices range from $15 – $18 per person and due to Covid-19, guests are required to wear a mask. At the time tickets are purchased, the seats around the purchased seats will be automatically blocked. Temperatures will be taken at the door. The theatre will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between shows. All actors will be performing in clear masks.

Saturday, November 28

Castalian Springs

Experience a traditional Victorian Christmas at Wynnewood State Historic Site during a house tour of this unique and large log cabin. Learn how modern Christmas traditions originated such as Christmas trees and stockings, and everything in between! Journey through a Victorian holiday at Wynnewood and learn about the Christmas traditions of the Wynnes, resort guests, and the enslaved as shared in diaries and letters. Guests will also be served hot cider.

Tickets range from $8 – $12 per person and must be purchased in advance. Due to Covid-19 face masks are required and tour sizes will be limited.

House tours run between 10am – 4pm.

 

Tuesday, December 1

Hendersonville

Boutique shopping is highlighted at this shopping event at Bluegrass Yacht & Country Club. Admission is free and the public is welcome to come and see what awesome local shopping is available in Hendersonville!

Thursday, December 3 - Friday, December 4

Hendersonville

Actors Point Theatre Company presents “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play!” as their holiday performance. For the show guests can purchase tickets for dinner to be served before the show, making for an enjoyable and hassle-free evening. Dinner is served at 6:30pm, and the show begins at 7:30pm. Tickets range from $14 – $36 per person.

Friday, December 4

Gallatin

The Palace Theater in downtown Gallatin hosts a showing of It’s a Wonderful Life, the classic Christmas movie where an angel is sent from Heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed. Visits with Santa will also be available before the movie begins.

Admission is $5 per person and due to Covid-19, CDC guidelines will be followed. Face masks and/or shields along with social distancing is strongly encouraged.

Doors open at 6pm, the movie begins at 7pm.

Saturday, December 5

Castalian Springs

Journey through an early 19th century holiday during a house tour of Cragfont State Historic Site and experience the Christmas traditions of the Winchester family as told through their letters and diaries. Hot cider will also be served to guests.

Tickets range from $8 – $12 per person and must be purchased in advance. Due to Covid-19 face masks are required and tour sizes will be limited.

House tours run between 10am – 4pm.

Saturday, December 5

Gallatin

Join Bledsoe Creek State Park for an easy hike along the Mayo Wix Trail to see Santa! Attendees should dress warmly and bring a blanket to sit on during this magical story time. Guests must have access to a mask for times when social distancing between households is not possible. Cookies and cocoa will be offered to help attendees warm up after the story.

The event starts at 10am is $7 per child (12 and under) and $3 per adult and guests need to purchase tickets in advance for the hike. Tickets are limited.

Saturday, December 5

Gallatin

The Palace Theater in downtown Gallatin hosts a showing of Elf, the much-loved Christmas movie where as a baby, Buddy lived in an orphanage and stowed away in Santa’s sack, ending up at the North Pole! Later, as an adult human who happened to have been raised by elves, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his birth father, Walter Hobbs. Buddy, meanwhile, experiences the delights of New York City (and human culture) as only an elf can. When Walter’s relationship with Buddy interferes with his job, he is forced to reevaluate his priorities. Visits with Santa will also be available before the movie begins.

Admission is $5 per person and due to Covid-19, CDC guidelines will be followed. Face masks and/or shields along with social distancing is strongly encouraged.

Doors open at 2pm, the movie begins at 3pm.

Saturday, December 5

Portland

The Annual Portland Christmas Festival & Parade is full of family-friendly activities that include a visit with Santa, cookie decorating and crafts (while supplies last), live music, food and more. A lively parade takes place after the festival with lots of fun floats and favorite holiday characters lining the streets. Following the parade there will be a tree lighting ceremony for the City of Portland Christmas Tree. The 2020 theme is “Songs of the Season.” Admission is free.

The festival runs from 3pm – 5pm. The parade begins at 5:30pm.

Sunday, December 6

Gallatin

Join staff at Bledsoe Creek State Park to discuss what Christmas might have looked like in the 18th century. One common gift during the holidays was a pomander, a wonderfully fragrant orange or apple with cloves. Participants will have the chance to make their very own pomander to take home and enjoy this holiday season. Guests will need to have access to a mask and social distancing will be encouraged. Limited spot available, reservations are $5 per person. The class begins at 2pm.

Sunday, December 6

Hendersonville

Bring chairs and hot cocoa to enjoy one of Hendersonville ’s most anticipated events of the year, the Hendersonville HolidayFest Christmas Parade! The entire family will love seeing marching bands, horse-drawn floats, vintage cars, and favorite Christmas characters, including Santa Claus! This year’s 2020 theme is “It’s A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Admission is free.

The parade begins at 2:30pm.

Hendersonville

Holiday in the Hollow held at the gorgeous Barn at Spring Lake Farms is a Christmas marketplace with two opportunities for guests to shop lots of unique vendors. Food trucks will also be on-site for purchases!  On Friday evening tickets are $10 per person (kids 12 and under free) and on Saturday tickets are $5 per person (kids 12 and under free). Tickets can be purchased in advance. Also on Saturday guests can book a quick Santa photo session with a professional photographer for $25, which includes 5 edited images.

Friday night the event is open from 3pm – 8pm and on Saturday the event is open from 9am – 4pm.

Saturday, December 12

The festive Gallatin Christmas Parade takes over downtown Gallatin as Santa and other holiday favorites make an appearance on fun floats. Live music also highlights the event before the parade begins! The 2020 theme is “A Thrill of Hope.” Admission is free.

The parade begins at 10:45am.

Saturday, December 12

Gallatin

Join Grammy Award-winning country star John Berry for the 24th Annual Christmas Songs & Stories with John Berry at The Palace Theatre in downtown Gallatin. Berry has placed 20 singles on the country hit parade charts, six of which went Top 5 as well as a No. 1 on the Billboard and Radio & Records country charts. He has earned numerous Gold and Platinum records. Tickets are $40 per person.

This show is being sold socially distanced. For guest safety CDC guidelines will be followed. Social distancing and masks will be strongly encouraged.

Doors open at 2:30pm, the show begins at 3pm (7pm show sold out).

The Hendersonville “Deck the Hulls” Christmas Boat Parade brings a ton of family fun and excitement to your holiday season! This holiday spectacular is great for all ages and attracts spectators seeking to enjoy this beautiful boat showcase. This event is free for the public.

Sunday, December 13

Hendersonville

Saturday, December 19

Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch will be shown at The Palace Theatre in downtown Gallatin! Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Christmas attire and Santa will be at the event! Guests will also receive a keepsake gift. Tickets are $10 per person (kids under 2 are free). Tickets can be reserved in advance, door tickets not guaranteed if online tickets sell out.
 
The Grinch will be shown at 10am and 5pm.
